
CARAMELIZED ONION GRAVY
This Caramelized Onion Gravy is a rich, savoury sauce with a perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavours.
It begins with a combination of Derlea Diced Onion and Derlea Caramelized Onion in butter, creating a deep and layered flavour. The addition of stock, and aromatics continue to bring this flavourful gravy to life. The final sauce is a velvety, full-bodied gravy that’s perfect for drizzling over proteins, mashed potatoes, meatloaf, fries, or vegetables for an extra burst of flavor.
ingredients
- 1 jar Derlea Caramelized Onion (185g)
- 1/2 jar Derlea Diced Onion (90g)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 sprig of fresh thyme
- 1/2 tbsp all purpose flour
- 100 ml red wine
- 1 tsp red wine vinegar
- 250 ml cooking stock of choice
- 1/2 tbsp butter (Salted)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- 1. Melt butter in a pan on medium heat, add in Derlea Diced Onion, bring to simmer. Stir in Derlea Caramelized Onions to incorporate.
- 2. Stir in flour into red wine vinegar and wine. Mix into pan until combined. Stir constantly for 2-3 minutes.
- 4. Add stock, bay leaf, thyme and continue cooking for at least 10-15 mins, stirring frequently.
- 5. Increase the heat and bubble for a few mins until reduced by half.
- 6. Reduce heat to low, continue stirring until thickened to preferred consistency.
